The Challenge
A major distributor of communications products ships over 8,000 orders daily from one central warehouse to its retail customers nationwide. Two laser printers batch-produce the order documents (pick, pack, and ship). Sporadic jamming of these printers adversely affected operations.
The customer identified specific requirements to improve efficiency and operations, including:
- Custom cut-sheet pick-pack-ship document that included a built-in pressure-sensitive label.
- Product that could be imaged from four print trays loaded 500 at a time and run 99.9% jam-free.
- Labels that permanently adhered to the shipping carton.
The Solution
Avery Dennison did an on-site needs evaluation examining the current and future printers the customer was considering. Our technical team engineered a cut-sheet, pressure-sensitive product that met all the customer's needs. Rigorous performance testing on the warehouse floor ran jam-free and resulted in operator approval and satisfaction.
